Welcome to DailyImprov.net, a website dedicated to improvised piano music. This short story presents some more background on the project and the performer.

The past

I have been playing the piano since the age of seven and I have graduated a first degree musical school in 1999. The years I spent attending the school brought me some fundamental knowledge of music theory and piano performance but I definitely cannot call myself a pianist, let alone an artist. If you’re looking for one, visit Leszek Możdżer.

Just how you don’t have to be Jacques-Yves Cousteau to explore the sea, you don’t have to be Святослав Рихтер to explore the piano. I have always used piano performance as a means for balancing my different frames of mind and I feel that the emotional burden of every recording can be identified on consecutive listenings. This leads to turning the piano to good account as a means of communication.

I have used Last.fm for musical promotion but it turns out that this method did not work well for me. The problem with Last.fm was that in spite of uploading an ample set of tunes, they did not get any “airplay” in any of Last.fm “radio” streams. I guess I would have to actively spam people to get any new listeners. As this was not an acceptable way of accomplishing this for me, I removed my catalog from their site and created DailyImprov.net.

The present

Today, DailyImprov.net is a brand new project that on one hand tries to motivate me to work on my piano technique on a regular basis, and on the other to broaden the group of my listeners. It has gained some recognition since its addition to the iTunes Podcast Directory and I must say the daily publication concept has worked very well so far. At one point I managed to prepare a remix of Steven Wilson’s Abandoner, a piece from his solo debut “Insurgentes”. The remix won the competition Steven organised which boosted the number of listeners.

Currently I am in the process of preparing a new engine for the website, trying to prepare something that will be able to carry the load of ideas I have.

The future

I cannot say I plan to take over the world, starting with the music industry, with this website. However, there are some ambitious plans for its development and its goals. I am looking forward to working with other musicians and I hope this website will eventually help in finding some respective collaborators. It would be perfect to make a little bohemian community.

Moreover, having the technical facilities in place, I anticipate that other musicians will be interested in publishing free music through DailyImprov.net. If you’re one, drop me a line.
